British Approved Names are short, distinctive names, selected in accordance with the Guiding Principles for substances which have systematic chemical or other scientific names which are too complex for general use.
British Approved Names (BAN) 2012 provides the most up-to-date details of these names. It consolidates the drug names included in BAN 2007, with the 57 names published in its four supplements. It also incorporates a further 70 recommended International Nonproprietary Names which have been adopted as British Approved Names. BAN 2012 became legally effective on 1 January 2012.
Updated annually, the British Pharmacopoeia (BP) is the official, authoratative collection of standards for UK medicinal substances for human and veterinary use. The 2014 edition includes almost 3500 monographs, and all monographs and requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia are also reproduced in the BP, which make it an essential reference for students, lecturers and researchers.
The BP Online offers enhanced search features including an A-Z listing on monographs and articles, inclusion of 'did you mean' and other close matches and the personalised 'My BP' area, making searching for the information you use regularly easier and more efficient.
To find out more about the contents of the BP 2014, download the index of the BP 2014 and the BP (Veterinary) 2014 in PDF format from here.
